Organic Green Split Peas

Organic Green Split Peas

Green split peas are green peas with the husk removed and split in half, they have a mild flavour and soft texture. Green split peas are similar to the lentil in versatility and nourishment. They are vegan and wheat free.

Served Best

Split peas are most commonly used in thick soups and stews. The peas break apart when cooking, adding to the texture of the soup. Split peas can also be used to make dips and spreads or they can be included with ingredients in baked casseroles or stuffing.

How To Cook

Rinse split peas before cooking. Place 1 cup of split peas in a large pot with 2 cups of water and ½ tsp salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover and cook until smooth, 25 minutes. Optional: soak for a few hours before cooking to reduce cooking time and improve digestibility.

Split peas offer significant levels of protein, iron, zinc, and phosphorus. A diet rich in split peas and other legumes may help reduce cholesterol, hypertension, and the risk of prediabetes, and may also offer significant anti-inflammatory effects.
